  1.                                 Using UTCAT
  2.  
  3. You should be at the UT Library Online Catalog -- Search Choices Menu. From
  4. this menu, you may type 1 or 2 letter search commands and the word(s) you
  5. want to search for.  After your search command is typed in, hit the keypad
  6. ENTER key.
  7.  
  8. AUTHOR searches:      To search for a particular author, you use the A
  9.                       (Author) search command followed by the author's
  10.                       name.
  11.  
  12.                       Example:  a mowat, farley
  13.  
  14.                       To see the index of authors, you use the AI (Author
  15.                       Index) search command followed by the first author
  16.                       you wish to see.
  17.  
  18.                       Example:   ai mowat, farley
  19.  
  20. TITLE searches:       To search for a particular title, you use the T (Title)
  21.                       search command followed by the title of the book.
  22.  
  23.                       Example:   t never cry wolf
  24.  
  25.                       To see the index of titles, you can use the TI (Title
  26.                       Index) search command followed by the first title you
  27.                       wish to see.
  28.  
  29.                       Example:   ti never cry wolf
  30.  
  31.                       To search for certain keywords in a title, you can use
  32.                       the TK (Title Keyword) search command.
  33.  
  34.                       Example:   tk wolf cry
  35.  
  36. SUBJECT searches:     To search by subject, you can use the S (Subject)
  37.                       search command.
  38.  
  39.                       Example:   s wolves
  40.  
  41. Also, from the Search Choices Menu, you can type 3 letter commands
  42. followed by Keypad Enter or their equivalent PF keys.

  44. BACk (PF1)            To page back and review up to 10 screens of results.
  45. REPeat (PF2)     To repeat the last search typed in.
  46. INDex (PF3)      To move from brief or full records to the corresponding
  47.                  index.
  48. EXPlain (PF4)    To view general information about the Online Catalog.
  49. NEWs (PF5)       To view current information about Online Catalog
  50.                  developments.
  51. HELp (PF6)       To see context sensitive help.
  52. MENu (PF7)       To move back to the Search Choices Menu.
  53. STOp (PF8)            To exit from the Online Catalog.
  54. COMment          Send comments to library staff.
  55.  
  56. Finally, if a list of items is on the screen, you can type the number of
  57. the item you wish to see.

  59. Please note that some terminal packages remap the keypad ENTER key to other
  60. keys.  For example, in Procomm the equivalent to Keypad ENTER is Shift-F10.
  61. Keypad ENTER is equivalent to ESC O M.
  62.
